Neat UK Lost Promo

So it's Wednesday night, and I'm bummed that there won't be a new episode of Lost for a few months!! *sigh* At least there won't be a need for this nifty site, posing the question "Is Lost a repeat?". I enjoyed the season finale last week. Glad to finally get some answers to big questions, like "How/why did the plane crash?" and "What happens when the button is not pressed?". Until next season!!

In my surfing today I did find this promo for Lost. A lot of places are dubbing it a "rejected" Lost Promo but apparently it is real, airing on UK television. Pretty neat interpretive dance to sum up the major relationships of the first season.

Buns & Dogs

Wow, Bortz is the source of all weirdness today. Like this article about a stolen cinnamon bun that looks like Mother Teresa and has been dubbed "The Nun Bun". Unreal. Maybe it will turn up on eBay one of these days. Apparently they have recently received a clue in the form of a note from someone dubbing themselves "Hu Dunet". You just can't make this stuff up.

This poor dog became overweight when her owner fed her nothing but beer & donuts. The poor thing. Her owner should be shot. And check out this ugly dog! Say hello to Pee Wee Martini! Be sure to click through to the other sites to see pictures. He looks like he's been partying - hard!

Strange & bizarre time wasters

OK, I came across this "bag of crabs" site on Sissyfight this afternoon. One of the sissies is a big fan of crabs, so anything with crabs in it gets posted in her honor. I thought in light of that site I'd share some of the stranger sites I've come across on the Web (that I can remember!)

Of course you have to love the Badger site. The sad part is that the song just gets into your head and repeats, and repeats, and repeats... I actually think this is done by the same people that brought us the bag of crabs.

I always enjoyed the stuff that the folks at Rather Good put out. Favorites include Spoonguard, Independent Woman, Gay Bar, and my favorite, Viking Kittens (which for some reason or another is no longer in RatherGood).

Burger King had a great ad campaign a year or so ago with the Subservient Chicken. Type a command, and the chicken will do it. Someone in my husband's office actually thought it was a live guy there responding to your input. Of course this led to a host of others, most notably Subservient President, Subservient Blair, Virtual Bartender, Virtual Bartender II, Stewie Live (from Family Guy), Subservient Donald, Virtual Girlfriend, Virtual Carwash Girls, Virtual Stripper, and my new favorite, Subservient Programmer. I can see it now, the guys in my husband’s office are going to have a field day with all of these...

There are always the myriad of dancing pages to be found out there. Of course there is the Hamster Dance page that probably started it all. Gotta love the song. Ed reminded me of the squirrel nutsack dance (of course). I prefer the interactive ones that let you control your dancer, like Dancing Bush and Dancing Paul.

The web wouldn't quite be the same without name generators. Best name for your name generator honors goes to The Goddamn Rock Solid Ghetto Shiznit Name Generator. Catchy, isn't it? By the way, my goddamn rock solid ghetto shiznit name is Ass Machine Wack. Lovely. And the Viking Name Generator is always fun too - this one changes depending on what you like best about being a Viking. Like for instance, I am Ogurr the Wrathful. Don't you forget it.

What's the web without dorky games? A classic, per say, is The Oracle of Bacon at Virginia. You can try and figure out the Bacon number before you put it in or, my favorite, you can try to find actors with high Bacon numbers. It's tougher than it sounds! Try Guess the Dictator and/or Television Sitcom Character for a barrel of laughs. Remember those MASH games we used to play as kids? Now you can do MASH online. And speaking of childhood, how about an online Etch-A-Sketch? Perhaps one of my favorite, old sites that fascinates me is Sodaplay. Not sure how to actually describe it, but it's a great little tool that lets you create your own models, then simulate movement. It's a cool cause & effect, physics kind of thing. There are tons of actual, serious games that I really like, but I'll save those for another post.

Wow, now that I'm doing this I know I am forgetting some fun sites. So I've enlisted some assistance from Bortz, since she remembers such crazy things better than I. I can't believe that I forgot about Gonads & Strife. I think I got her hooked on that one. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee! To contest, she sent me Anywhere, from Weebl & Bob. I think Bortz likes this one a little too much. Other sites that Bortz sent along included the Paper Shaper (for your geek origami needs), virtual bubble wrap, and The David Blaine Assassination Game (love it!!). Bortz also claims that I originally sent her most of these, but I honestly don't remember, so as far as I'm concerned these all came from Bortz. And she is responsible for passing on a site where you can create your own band to me the other day. It is actually created by the aforementioned Dancing Paul himself. Be sure to check out the gallery of his work - he's done lots of funny things!

Ed of course, forever the Trekkie, insisted I include Khaaan!

Of course there is the Dialectizer, where you can translate some text or even a whole webpage into different dialects. I'll leave with this once since I am going there to translate my post into Swedish Chef once I get this published.

Have fun! These should keep you busy for a while!

Oh my...

For the Yeti in your life... This advertising site for the Phillips Body Shaver was good for a few laughs this morning. The more you poke around the more silly things you find. We especially liked the music video.

I just found out today through a post on Bong, the Depeche Mode mailing list that I belong to, that one of my favorite radio stations, WLIR in Long Island, NY, is back in business. They have been the best alternative radio station in the area. Well, quite frankly, so all practical purposes they were the only alternative station, in terms of New Wave electronic type music. When I attended college and was in the laundry room flipping around the dial and came across "Major Tom (I'm Coming Home)" by Peter Schilling and I was hooked. I luckily lived on the correct side of the dorm for reception. I've never seen a station with such fickle reception before. Violator came out a year later and I really got to enjoy the full Mode treatment. To this day I still can't hear "Dangerous" without hearing the Shriek of the Week embedded in it in multiple places. I wouldn't be quite the Depeche Mode fan that I am if it wasn't for that station. In any case, you can listen to their broadcast - it's streamed over the Internet if you are not lucky enough to get it by you. I tried driving around town at lunchtime today and experienced the same crappy reception that I am used to with LIR, but I had a moment of radio clarity in the driveway so maybe, if I'm lucky, might get some semblance of reception at home. Wish me luck.

OK, I was reading the NY Times Style e-mail that I received this evening (haw, since you all know just how style conscious I am, ha ha ha!) and I had to share with you this article: Black toilet paper? I love this summary/tagline from the article: "'You'd think, wow, black toilet paper. Am I really going to use this?' Good question. If black is the new black, again, should its influence extend to toilet paper? Can toilet paper make it as an object of design, a touchstone of chic? More important, should it?" These are the pressing issues of today brought to us by the Times. Not what I expected to read today!

Harry Connick, Superstar!

OK, while Ed covered the details of our weekend in NY rather well, I can't believe it is Tuesday night and I am just now getting around to announcing this: I MET HARRY CONNICK, JR.!!

It was somewhat surreal to meet the man I've obsessed over since 1989. Ed got us really great 3rd row seats for The Pajama Game, so I was able to gawk. We were close enough and his pants were tight enough for me to be able to tell that my dear Mr. Connick wears briefs. But I digress... After the show, we did the old stand by the stage door thing and about 5 minutes later Harry was coming out the door and right in front of me! I gave him my Playbill to sign, told him how much we enjoyed the performance, and congratulated him on his Tony nomination. He thanked me, handed back my Playbill and moved on. And that was it. I was so excited I thought I was going to cry. Ed, God bless him, was pushing me up to the front and trying to get my picture with Harry but the two rather large security dudes wouldn't let anyone take pictures. Oh well. I had my film confiscated at a Harry concert years ago so I wasn't about to mess with photos & security again. There are so many things I would have loved to say but time was short and there were others who wanted autographs. Ed was going to ask him how Jill was doing but never did. Oh well. So, as if I needed a reason to declare this, but ED IS THE BEST HUBBY EVAH! This was an awesome day all around.

While searching for a picture, I came across this press junket for The Pajama Game. I thought it was funny. And this picture of Harry's opening night bow. The man has truly lost it. Still love him though!!

A few weeks ago I was watching Jay Leno and he had Elwood Carlisle on. He's an 80 year old who decided to pursue acting as a career when he was 73, by becoming an extra. Apparently a few people who worked on Jay's show made a documentary on him called Elwood Carlisle, Superstar. What a hoot he is! The guy has incredible energy, and seems so out there - I think I'll need to search down this film & see it someday. Check out his headshot, cover letter & resume - it's outrageous!

Also making the talk show rounds is Rosie Perez, hawking her documentary "Yo soy Boricua, pa'que tu lo sepas!" or "I'm Boricua, Just So You Know!". Rosie just cracks me up. I'll go see anything she's in, just to listen to her talk. Ed hit it on the nose, she's been on Letterman so often it's like she is turning into his Charo.

One last thing - we are so bummed that 24 is done for the season! I know, I need to stop lamenting about the end of the season. It's sad, really. One of Ed's co-workers had a good point - if the show is done in real time, how did Jack go from being captured somewhere in LA by the Chinese to being on a slow boat to China, which is actually at sea already, in the space of a few minutes? Bad time continuum! Mary Lynn Rajskub was on Regis & Kelly yesterday morning and she pointed out her Mom in the crowd, who was wearing a short sleeved version of this t-Shirt. Excellent!!

End of the TV season... *sniff*

Wow, it doesn't seem possible that the TV Season is ending. We just watched the final episode of That 70's Show and when I'm done here, we're going to head upstairs and watch the last Will & Grace. Lost and 24 will be ending next week!!! What will I do for drama & suspense?

Speaking of Lost I came across another few cool websites for the show. First off is the site for The Hanso Foundation that was featured in an actual commercial during the last break of the show last night. I understand they played it last week as well, but with all of our TiVo fast forwarding through the commercials we missed it. I haven't gotten the chance to really read much of it yet, but The Lost Experience, looks rather promising with info. And Fark always has a lively discussion for each episode that is usually funny as all hell as well as a great place for insight and links.

We went to see Depeche Mode this past weekend at the PNC Arts Center. Happy Mother's Day from Ed! We had a good time, and met up with our friend Dave, who we know through our now defunct NYBong list. While reading some reviews on the DM Message Board, I came across a post that linked to a site that described Martins "Floof" of hair through the years. I found it funny. My favorite has to be the early "Shaven Floof", as pictured here. Can't beat the volume!!

Ed sent me the following video depicting the Evolution of dance, as performed by Judson Laipply, an "Inspirational Comedian". I got a real kick out of it. I'm going to try embedding it again, changing the size, and see if it works this time.

Another dismal day

Wow, it's still rainy & yucky here. Weather like this can only motivate me to hit the couch & snooze. It's bad. Maybe I can use one of these to pick me up. Leave it to the Japanese! It's like King Roland from Spaceballs... keep a couple of cans stashed in the desk drawer.

Wet wet water, water everywhere

It was cold & rainy here today (well, by the time I posted this it's now yesterday), so I'm going with a water themed blog entry today.

Ed found this gadget online and sent it to me as a possible addition to our duck themed bathroom accessories. Unreal. As if swimming around a tank of water all day long isn't undignified enough...

I don't know why, but I decided to read the NYTimes review for Poseidon. Why they found it necessary to remake the original Poseidon Adventure is pretty much beyond me anyways, but they had to do it twice in one year (they had a made for TV movie that aired the same week our family was taking a cruise, haw!) But I digress... I loved the ratings line that the reviewer put in at the end: "Poseidon" is rated PG-13. Many dead bodies are displayed, but the survivors keep their clothes on and their language clean. Good to know.

OK, so it's not really water related (but wait, they are on a tropical island... surrounded with water... and it rains a lot... yeah, that's it...) but I found a new Lost website that I really like, that's to a post on Sissyfight. I'm so bummed that the season finale is next week already! You know they'll drop an even bigger bomb on us that will keep us obsessed over the summer. Can't wait!

Deliciousness

I'm reading articles from the New York Times online and just came across this one on "Molecular Mixology". I may be a super picky eater, but I tend to get more experimental with my mixed drinks. I'd love to try some of these drinks, like this Globular Cape Codder from WD-50, or the Mojitos they describe. To quote Rachael Ray, Yum-O!!! Then again, I shouldn't expect to find any of these drinks near me anytime soon. I can't even find a bartender who can make a daquiri without the aid of a premade mixer.
(Photos, respectively, by Peter Thompson & Shannon Greer for The New York Times)

OK, I know Char has more clothes than humanly necessary - I've been good & haven't shopped for new stuff for her really since the late summer / early fall. I went to Old Navy looking for some dresses and had to get her the cutest little outfit - a pink peasant blouse with floral embroidering around the neck, a long white peasant skirt, and - gasp - a little denim jacket. It is so darn cute on her!! I bought the jacket a size big so a) it will last longer & b) its nice & baggy & I can roll up the sleeves all retro like. I'm in denial, because I'm dying to get a denim jacket (so I can relive those glory days of the 80's... rolled ups sleeves, collar up, and a gazillion pins on the lapel...). This would have been perfect if they had made them in Mommy sizes. I'll have to settle for living vicariously through my daughter's wardrobe. She LOVES this outfit and threw a fit on me in the dressing room when I went to take it off so we could buy it. She as a matter of fact was so cute, trying on all this stuff for me at the store, checking herself out in the mirror, and OK'ing or vetoing stuff. Too funny, until her screams of protest started ricocheting off of the polished concrete floors in the cavernous dressing room area! I'll have to post a picture when I get one.

I watched an episode of The View yesterday. It's not my usual morning habit, but Harry Connick, Jr. was on promoting The Pajama Game, and I had to check him out!). They were talking about last minute gifts you could still buy your Mom for Mother's Day, and featured this little number. Nothing says I love you Mom like giving her embellished rubber gloves. The site it was found on, A Nifty Gift, is rather cute. I found this cow print purse and had to laugh. Who can see the cow spots on it anyway? It should be called the chicken feather purse instead.

Off to watch Lost - supposed to be a good one!

J.C. Penney

With everything going on here I've been very bad keeping up with ye ol' blog this past two weeks, so I thought I'd ease myself back into things gently with this J.C. Penney Fall/Winter 1980 Catalog. Wow, it's really scary to see the fashions from back then. But, like Ed said, in 20 years everyone will be laughing at what we are wearing now. I thank God every once in so often that I was a stupid kid with no fashion aspirations back then. Oof. My favorite page has to be this one, featuring a lovely set of owl towels & accessories for your bathroom. Oof!!

Adam Sandler's wife just gave birth a few days ago. I had to laugh at the short announcement on Sandler's website: "SANDLER HAD A KID!!! Kid is healthy!! Wife is healthy!! He's still a moron, and that's all that counts!!!"
